Celstran® LFT

Processing
Celstran LFT is intended for injection molding, blow molding and extrusion. In processing all Celstran LFT grades should be taken to ensure that fiber breakage is kept to a minimum. The longer the glass fibers in the component, the better are its mechanical properties.

Structure
The Celstran LFT product series encompasses a number of long fiber reinforced thermoplastics that can be adapted in tailor-made fashion to customer requirements. Nearly all types of semi-crystalline and amorphous thermoplastic polymers are suitable as thermoplastic matrix materials.

Celstran LFT is produced in a special patented pultrusion process through which a high impregnation quality is achieved without damage to the fibers. Every single filament of the reinforcement fibers is wetted intensively in this process. The fibers incorporated in this process can be glass, carbon, aramid, and stainless steels. Fiber lengths range between 10 and 15 mm.

Celstran LFT is mainly processed by injection molding.

Properties
Molded parts made of Celstran LFT provide extremely long fibers and high fiber weight ratios. This results in good dimensional stability and outstanding mechanical properties. The attainable values regarding impact resistance, resistance to interlaminar fracture augmentation, solidity, stiffness, and fatigue resistance are impressive and can be precisely adjusted through the "tailor-made" design of the fiber/matrix combination including the chemical bonding. Celstran LFT allows for cost saving production methods and short cycle times in component manufacturing. This leads to products with an attractive price/performance ratio that are, in addition, recyclable several times because of their thermoplastic matrices and high fiber lengths.

Grades

  • glass fiber reinforced basic grades: fiber content: 30-60%, matrix: PP, PA66, HDPE
  • Celstran LFT S: contains special steel filaments for electrical screening
  • glass fiber reinforced special grades based on the following matrix: PC/ABS, PPS, PU, PBT, POM
  • C-fiber reinforced (40%), matrix: PA, PPS, PU
  • Aramide-fiber reinforced (30%), matrix: PA, PPS, POM

Applications
Celstran LFT is useful wherever metals allow a replacement by modern 100 % recycable processing materials. Their application reduces weight and saves costs. Another reason for using Celstran LFT is the fact that other filamentenhanced or short-fiber reinforced thermoplastics are not able to meet the same requirements. Areas of application that may be suggested include: structural, visible and operating parts in the automobile industry (e.g. battery trays, clutch pedals, gear shift levers, air suction pipes, cable trays and control device casings), in the electrics / electronics area (electromagnetically screened casings), in machine construction (abrasion-resistant cogwheels), as well as the sports gear and leisure sector (ski binding elements etc.). Applied as a concentrate, Celstran LFT achieves significant property improvements in recycled polymer materials.
