Hostaform® POM

Processing
Hostaform POM may be run on all standard processing machinery for thermoplastics, such as injection moulding machines, extruders, injection and extrusion blow molding machines and compression molding machines. Pretreatment is not generally necessary but where through poor storage arrangements the product has been exposed to a damp atmosphere or has been in contact with water, it has to be dried at 100 to 120 °C in a circulating air oven for about 3 6 hours, depending on layer depth (which should not exceed 40 mm).

Structure
Hostaform POM is an acetal copolymerizate, made up of trioxane and small amounts of comonomeres. It possesses a linear structure and high-crystalline quality. Its chemical structure - molecular chains with incorporated randomly distributed conomer units - gives it a higher stability to thermal and oxidative degradation compared to homopolymers.

Properties
Hostaform POM is characterised by

  • high toughness (down to -40°C)
  • high hardness and stiffness
  • very good heat deflection resistance (operating temperature up to 100°C)
  • excellent resilience
  • good electrical and dielectrical behavior
  • good chemical resistance e.g. to fuels, solvents, strong alkalis
  • no environmental stress cracking
  • good slip properties
  • low water absorption resulting in high dimension stability
  • straight forward processability

The spectrum of properties exhibited by the basic polymer can be modified and improved in many different ways with suitable reinforcing materials.

Grades
The Hostaform POM product range consists of a number of grades for all kinds of processing and applications. These include injection-molding and extrusion, easy flowing grades, modification for even better sliding quality, higher degrees of impact resistance up to extreme impact resistance, glass fiber or glass bead reinforced, laser markable. For varied applications a broad color range is available. In addition, there is the acetal copolymer program Celcon® of Ticona, USA and Duracon® of Polyplastics, Japan.

Applications
Hostaform POM is an independent class of construction material for engineering parts of all kinds. It is applied in almost all industrial branches in so many ways that only a small number of application examples can be given here.

Automotive Industry
components for safety belt mechanisms, seat adjustments, window lifters, sliding-roofs, heating controls and axial fans, door locks, fuel gauges und pumps, water separators, compensation and storage tanks, gas caps, loudspeakerc, coverings, ventilation grids, window lifters, cogwheels
